Visit spectacular Montserrat & explore the Cava country of Catalonia
National park Montserrat is the most popular destination outside Barcelona and offers spectacular views. Like thousands of pilgrims before, you too will be touched and inspired as you explore the magnificent mountain and its spectacular rock formations, and as you learn about the legend of the Black Virgin. If available, you will also enjoy a performance by “La Escolania”, which is the oldest children’s choir in Europe. Join us for either a private tour or a semi-private tour with 4-12 participants in total.
You don’t need to worry about finding your way to a bus or train station since we will personally collect you from the hotel or the cruise port for the drive up the mountain.
Montserrat is the ‘Serrated Mountain’. The mountain gets its name from the rock formations which look like they’ve been sawed and sculpted, the result of thousands of years of rain and winds. Our experienced drivers will ensure you enjoy the road up the mountain unstressed and we will take you all the way to the entrance so you don’t have to walk uphill (admission to Montserrat is included in the price of the tour). Prepare for gorgeous views of Catalonia from the top of the mountain.
Among the sites to explore at Montserrat, you will discover the Benedictine Santa Maria de Montserrat abbey and visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat to see the famous 12th-century carving of Our Lady of Montserrat, also known as La Moreneta (the Dark One or black Madonna). You can then choose whether you want to do some walking on your own, shop for local cheese and jam, or just take in the amazing views for a little longer.
On some days, you can also enjoy a performance by the oldest boys’ choir in Europe – the Escolania. The choir enjoys international prestige, giving concerts all over the world, and we will bring you to the site during the time of the performance so that you may enjoy this charming recital (if available on the day of your visit).
If you wish to join our full-day tour then you will also get a chance to visit the wine country of Catalonia and learn about the secrets of our Cava (the Catalan version of the French Champagne). You will get a guided tour inside a local Cava producer to learn about the process of making the wine and of course to sample the results…
We will be able to take you to anywhere you wish to go within the city at the end of the tour. So if you have luggage with you and you want to be dropped off at your hotel or the cruise port – just let us know in advance. If you prefer to go to dinner or see a flamenco show, please let us know and we will take you wherever you need to go. We are happy to help you plan the best possible itinerary for your visit so please contact us and we promise to give you straight and candid information.
